Vitamins, these are vital... |

Vitamine was the term coined by Casimir Funk, a Polish Biochemist, (1884-1967) for the
unidentified substances present in food which could prevent the diseases
scurvy, beriberi, and pellagra. This is the pioneer work in the study of
vitamins in which Funk reviews his research work and postulates his
theory of the existence of vitamines, essential factors in the diet.
Beginning next month we will start a series of articles looking at each
of the Vitamins and answering the questions, Why is this Vitamin
important? How much do we need? and What is the best form to consume? Stay tuned.

Animal Hospital has had the responsibility for the care of a group of Bomb
and Mine Sniffing Dogs which are trained in San Antonio and sent around the
world. She was recently asked to go to Sri Lanka (Remember the
Tsunami) to help train the Sri Lankan Military Veterinarians in the care of
their animals. It was a rare and once in a lifetime experience for
Loretta and she was kind to share with us a few pictures and some memories
of her experience!

In what most
people are describing as a medical miracle, Randall McCloy
Jr., the only surviving miner from the Sago mine disaster, has
returned home. When rescued from the Sago mine nearly four
months ago, he had brain failure, heart failure, kidney
failure, and liver failure. Needless to say, his outlook
appeared very bleak. He was immediately transferred to one of
the 30 brain trauma centers in the United States located at
the West Virginia School of Medicine to be under the care of
Dr. Julian Bailes. Dr. Bailes called upon Dr. Barry
Sears, one of the leading authorities in high-dose fish oil in
the United States, to see if there was anything Dr. Sears
might suggest.

Inside Outside is now offering Diamond Microdermabrasion
as an
alternative to the Aluminum Oxide Crystal Microdermabrasion many of you
are accustomed to. The Diamond Microdermabrasion is a cleaner
technique and produces a very smooth Polished skin surface which is
cleaned of dead skin and debris. We will follow each Diamond
Microdermabrasion with the "Javani Procedure" discussed in the next
section. For those of you who have tried the Diamond Microdermabrasion, you know how good your skin feels and without the
"Wind burned" and "Stinging" feeling associated with the Crystal Method.

The key to
healthy skin and for that matter the rest of our body is adequate
hydration. Our skin is 70% water and drinking enough water helps
our skin, but the sun and the aging process degrade the collagen in our
skin as we age. Collagen and another molecule, hyaluronic acid,
are the sponges that hold water in our skin. We now have a
technique to markedly increase the hydration in your skin with the use
of the Javani Collagen Gel and using the SmartSound electrical
stimulation to open the pores and Ultrasound to force the collagen into
the epidermis which pulls moisture into the dermis. The result is
softer and fuller skin which is
healthier and
more radiant. We will be using the
"Javani Procedure" in association with all of our other procedures which

Outside sponsored a number of items at the Silent Auction of the San
Antonio Sports Foundation Hall of Fame Tribute held on Friday,
17 Feb 06 at the Alamodome. Bob Bass, Sean Elliot, Cito
Gaston, Thomas Lott, Mary Nan West and Pinkey Whitney will be
inducted into the Hall of Fame. Susan
Blackwood, Executive Director of the Foundation, indicatedd the proceeds would
benefit the Dreams for Youth Program of the Sports Foundation.
Dr. Christian and Misty Bashara attended the gala
representing Inside Outside.
