Greetings
from Dr. Christian & the Staff of Inside Outside!
It's August, the kids are going back to school, 4 months till the holidays,
let's get in shape for all those parties!
New!!
Can you say "Leucine"?
Dr. Christian announces the NEW "Post Workout
Recovery Shake" |
 |

Part of the reason that we lose muscle
and have a harder time gaining muscle as we age is that our muscles lose
their sensitivity to the protein we eat with our meals.
New research has shown that the
Branched Chain Amino Acids, in particular, LEUCINE, when taken in larger
amounts can restore the level of muscle protein synthesis to that of
young individuals.
In addition, our muscles are more
sensitive to the uptake of Protein and Carbohydrate in the 2 hours
immediately after a workout. This shake is designed to provide
extra Branched Chain Amino Acids and Extra Leucine to help stimulate
more muscle protein synthesis when taken after a workout.
"Leucine
won't you do your muscle's will?" |
Vitamins, these are vital,
New Series Part 6 , The B Vitamins, Vitamin B5 |
 |

Vitamine was the term coined by Casimir Funk, a Polish Biochemist, (1884-1967) for the
unidentified substances present in food which could prevent the diseases
scurvy, beriberi, and pellagra. This is the pioneer work in the study of
vitamins in which Funk reviews his research work and postulates his
theory of the existence of vitamines, essential factors in the diet.
We continue our series on the Vitamins.

The
Madden Clan, Inside Outside's West Point Connection |
 |

We have had the
honor this
past Summer to help prepare Crystal Madden for her first year as a West
Point Cadet! Gary Madden, her father, a retired Army Helicopter Pilot,
teaches Computer Science at Lackland High School and her mother, Miriam is
an RN at the Audie Murphy VA and a frequent Spa Client. Crystal and
her brother John (a Junior at West Point) attended Antonian High School and
will continue to workout at Inside Outside whenever they get breaks from
West Point. West Point was the location of the famous West Point
"Project Total Conditioning" study performed in 1975 which demonstrated the
effectiveness of a high intensity circuit weight training for not only great
strength training but also on 60 measures of what are considered
Cardiovascular Conditioning.

Can too much Endurance Training be bad for you & hasten the aging
process? |
 |
Ever
since the death of Jim Fixx, author of "The Complete Book of Running",
in 1984 at the age of 52 of a massive heart attack there has been
discussion as the whether or not too much endurance training can be bad
for you. Jim Fixx
was very overweight, smoked and had a strong family history of heart
disease and when he finally started running at age 35, he most likely
had significant blockages present. The death of Brian Maxwell,
Marathon runner and founder of the PowerBar, at age 51 and the finding
of Blockages in Alberto Salazar, 3 time winner of NYC Marathon at age 48
highlights this issue. Mark Sisson, a veteran endurance athlete,
now converted to strength training and yoga has written an essay
entitled "Training is no Guarantee of Health" and outlines some of
the reasons as he says "Endurance Training is antithetical to antiaging"
