Alas, "All Good Things Must Come to an End"
and it's time to put our beloved
Hologic Discovery A DXA Machine to rest. It has reached an "End of Life" stage where
parts are increasingly scarce and a breakdown would by
problematic to deal with. Reminds me of our personal
"End of Life" scenarios. Our Discovery A has been
with us about 11 years now, has been a pretty much
flawless workhorse and with its special capabilities allowed us to
participate in 2 research studies over the years. The 1st was with the
UT Health Orthopedic Department where we analyzed
bone density in
elderly Hispanic men with Type 2 Diabetes. The second study
was a Body Composition study with a cancer center in
the valley that was studying a novel monoclonalantibody cancer drug
for patients with far advanced colon cancer.
So... We will
be purchasing the newest Hologic DXA Model, aptly called
the Horizon A!
It indeed is the newest
on the horizon and we will, of course, get the model with all
the
bells and whistles including some new software which
measures
Trabecular Bone Microarchitecture which has been shown to
increase the accuracy
of predicting future risk of bone fractures related to low
bone density.
And our DXA Testing Center has
been approved by the Texas Department of State
Health Services as a Healing Arts Osteoporosis/Bone
Density Screening Site and accepts self-referrals
for DXA Bone Density Testing.
