and New Years Day are behind us and we are all grateful to have struggled
through 2022! We need to be serious about our Nutrition and Exercise as they can
help us fight the Sneaky COVID-19 Omicron which has passed it's "stuff" along
to XBB.1.5 so it's not through with us yet!
At Inside Outside we have "The Cure" for our Health and Fitness Crisis,
never doubt it!!

Excerpted from Tolstoy's "The Three Questions" "IT ONCE OCCURRED TO A CERTAIN KING that IF he
always knew the right time to begin everything; IF he knew who were
the right people to listen to, and whom to avoid; and, above all, IF
he always knew what was the most important thing to do, he would
never fail in anything he might undertake. And, this thought having
occurred to him, he had it proclaimed that throughout his kingdom
that he would give a great reward to anyone who could teach him what
was the right time for every action, and who were the most necessary
people, and how he might know what was the most important thing to
do." Many learned men responded to this challenge, but all
had differing opinions. There was one who suggested that to
accomplish these three objectives, one must surely need to be able to
predict the future. For this, he suggested, that the King
consult only "Magicians", aka our
Leaders (National, State, Local) & those entrusted with our Public
Health, FDA, CDC,
 WHO
et al....
Almost every night in 2020, 2021 and 2022 there has
been a Tsunami of Magicians on TV and other media sources trying to
help us answer these 3 questions about the COVID-19 pandemic. At the
end of this article I have included recent Magician thoughts about
2023 from Forbes, Nature Magazine and The Lancet! Each of these, in
part, acknowledge that we and the world were not prepared for the
challenges COVID-19 gave us. A few in the Public Health arena
had warned of such an event but preparations were inadequate.
The Magicians, trying to figure out the future, initiated a lockdown
period on a generally naive public followed by a confusing reopening, followed by a screenings,
masking, surface cleaning, hand washing, 6' distancing period,
then a glimpse of hope with the first vaccines in late 2020, mass
vaccinations (often mandatory) in 2021, followed by emergence of variants, new surges,
conflicting recommendations leading to misinformation scenarios,
and now a "let's learn to live with it, you have autonomy, make your
own decisions, decide how best to protect yourself"
recommendations. We have fumbled through it all, and personal
experience of most of us attests to the tragedies and lives
lost but common sense tells us it could have been worse and it could
have been better. So what are the answers to the King's 3
questions applied to our personal responses to protecting ourselves
and others from spreading COVID-19.
The King finally went to a wise hermit who gave him this answer.
"Remember then: there is only one time that is important, Now! It is
the most important time because it is the only time we have any
power. The most necessary person is the one with whom you are, for
no man knows whether he will ever have dealings with anyone else:
and the most important affair is to do that person good, because for
that purpose alone was man sent into this life."
For me, applying this advice to COVID means that I will be aware of
my surroundings and who I am with at all times and be mindful of the
importance of the moment. I will try to gauge my risk of contracting COVID from
him/her and my risk of transmitting COVID to him/her and I will take
precautions if I am able, as I want to do them no harm from our
meeting but only good. The Lancet, Forbes and Nature article
are trying to keep us aware that COVID is not through with us and we
need to continue to be careful and do our part. Interestingly,
there is emerging interest in Artificial Intelligence to help us as
we try our best to make important decisions about the 3 Questions.

2022 was a year Dr. Christan and the UTSA Interns
focused on The "Air Quality Index, AQI" |

 With the realization in 2020 that COVID-19 was a airborne pathogen
transmitted by aerosols generated by coughing, singing or simply
talking, everyone became more aware of the issue of "Air Quality" and
many measures to decrease the spread of COVID were directed at
minimizing our exposure to these virus laden droplets, eg masks, stay
away from people and improved ventilation. This prompted Dr.
Christian and our Interns to take a "Deep Dive" into the critical issue
of "Air Quality" in general. Based on a chart on the
IQAir Web Site (IQAir provided some of
the first Medical Grade Portable Air Filtration Systems for hospitals in
Wuhan, China) Dr. Christian created a more comprehensive chart to
help define in a visual way just what we need to understand about the
particles and gases that are in the air around us and how they compare
in size and ability to affect human health. Thus began a year long
project involving all of our 2022 UTSA Interns.

facilities and are covered entities which must adhere to the privacy and
security requirements of HIPPA, The Texas Medical Privacy Act HB300, the
Texas Data Breach Notification Law and also agencies such as OSHA and the
Texas Department of Health and Human Services. The requirements are ever
changing as the risk of Cyber attacks increases. Over the past 6 months
we have updated our policies and procedures to ensure compliance with these
requirements and formed alliance with multiple partners to insure security
and privacy with your electronic personal health (ePHI) and your written
records. We have a new

Covid-19 precautions in the
USA started in Mid-March 2020 and our Spring 2020 Interns were not
allowed to return to their on-site internship after Spring break. These precautions
required a 4 Semester pause in our
 Internship
Program and we did not get interns again until Fall 2021. I
thought it would be nice to use this very distinct pause to create a
Tribute Board to our Pre-COVID Interns and also a chance to salute the
interns who had achieve Advanced Medical Professional Degrees. Inside Outside
hosted a total of 81 Pre-Covid Interns and many of them have become
valued members of our Medical Community. In May of 2022 we had our First
Physician Dr. Mercedes Jolly and our First Doctor of Medical Dentistry
Ashnu Rashu Graduate. Prior to that Laura (Oseghae) Rayburn became our
First Doctor Nurse Practitioner and Victoria (Seng) Novack became the
First Physician Assistant. Take a look at the large .pdf files and
see what a difference they are making in our Health Care System. Many
have gone on to become Registered Nurses, Dieticians and even one Fireman/EMT
and many have achieved Masters Degrees in numerous other fields (even a Scrum
Master, whatever that it is!). I try to keep up with them through
Facebook and always enjoy welcome them to stop by for a visit to update

 When
Dr. Christian attended the USAF Academy he was a member of the 15th
Squadron "War Eagles". Due to COVID Restrictions the usual 55th
reunion at the USAF Academy for the entire 1966 class was thought to be
too risky, so the 15th Squadron decided to have it's own Mini-Reunion
the last weekend of April 2022 in San Antonio which was brilliantly
organized by Dick Thompson. As part of the weekend event, Dr.
Christian offered to host a special evening at Inside Outside with a
wonderful meal prepared by Michele West of
4 Sisters Catering and an
educational program provided by our 2022 UTSA Interns, Jin Kim, Alexis
Bradshaw, Julia Wasicek and Hilary Navarro. The Topic was "The Air
Quality Index" and each intern presented a PowerPoint presentation about
some aspect of the AQI (see their presentations in the AQI Article
above). The evening included a traditional "Roll Call"
saluting deceased and surviving members of the squadron and several other 1966 classmates from the San Antonio area
were invited.

Member Spotlight: John Yantis, Founder of Yantis Construction Company

We salute John
Yantis in our Member Spotlight this Month! 
John has been a faithful member
of the Inside Outside Family since 2005.
A 1953 Graduate of Texas A&M, he has been honored with the
Distinguished Alumnus
Award, the highest honor
bestowed on a former student of Texas A&M and awarded since 1962 to only
268 of Texas A&M's nearly 500,000 students.
John was the founder of the family owned Yantis Company in 1965 which
has grown to be one of the 10 largest General Contractors in San
Antonio. Three generations of the Yantis family have guided this
prestigious and respected company and Inside Outside has played a part
in the life of most of the "Yantis Clan" over the years. His
Daughter Susan has an embroidery shop and has provided all our
embroidery needs for Inside Outside and our UTSA Interns each semester.
We celebrated John's 90th birthday last year and he is pictured with Dr.
Christian and personal trainer Marissa Sinni. We
are honored to have John as a valued member of the Inside
Outside Family.

Since it's inception, an important mission at Inside
Outside has been to make
a difference in our community. The best way we
have found to do this is to
make contributions to Non-Profit organizations
through silent auctions at their
annual fund raising events, seminars, health fairs or direct
donations. We would

Non-Profit and other organizations/businesses
